Secretary for the Environment KS Wong started his duty visit to Berlin yesterday to discuss energy saving and efficiency with German authorities.
He first met Director General for Energy Policy (Heating & Efficiency) Thorsten Herdan to discuss policies relating to energy saving.
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs & Energy's key energy policies include reducing greenhouse gases in Germany by up to 95% by 2050 and reducing primary energy consumption by half compared with 2008.
Mr Wong then met representatives of multinational conglomerate Siemens AG to learn about its energy-saving partnership project with Berlin city authorities to reduce carbon emissions at the community level.
The project - involving 164 buildings including schools, day-care centres, sports facilities, correctional facilities and universities - will help Berlin reduce carbon emissions by 25% a year over a 12-year contract period.
