The Restored Landfill Revitalisation Funding Scheme is now accepting applications. Non-profit-making organisations or national sports associations are eligible to apply until April 29, 2016.
Launching the scheme today, Secretary for the Environment KS Wong said the Government has earmarked $1 billion for the scheme to encourage active public participation in optimising the sites' revitalisation opportunities and to expedite their development.
The first batch of sites open for applications include Ma Yau Tong Central Landfill, Kwun Tong, Pillar Point Valley Landfill, Tuen Mun and Tseung Kwan O Stage I Landfill, Sai Kung.
A steering committee has been set up to help the Government select the most suitable projects. Committee Chairman Bernard Chan said it looks forward to working closely with all relevant stakeholders and the Government in the pursuit of worthwhile and innovative project proposals that can turn the restored landfills to gainful and beneficial uses for the community at the earliest opportunity.
There are 13 restored landfills in Hong Kong and six of them have already been developed for public use, including Jordan Valley Park, Ngau Chi Wan Park, Sai Tso Wan Recreation Ground, and Gin Drinkers Bay's BMX Park.
Other restored landfills ready for development include Ma Yau Tong West, Ngau Tam Mei, Siu Lang Shui and Tseung Kwan O Stage II/III.
