Environment head responds to audit report

November 18, 2015

The Government has adopted a positive attitude towards the Director of Audit’s report on reduction and recycling of food waste and will follow up on its recommendations, Secretary for the Environment KS Wong says.

Speaking to reporters in response to Report No. 65 tabled in the Legislative Council today, he said the Government has issued the first-ever food waste plan to address food waste holistically, underscoring the importance it attaches to the issue.

One of the measures is a food waste recycling facility which will be completed in 2017, he said, adding that the Government is working with the trade for a reasonable supply of food waste to keep the facility in use.

He also referred to the Food Wise campaign which advocates Government departments, the trade and citizens to support reduction at source.

Regarding recycling accounting methodology, he said the Government has actually reviewed the process and made improvements.
