Emissions reminder issued

November 16, 2015

Trades are reminded that from December 1, only non-road mobile machinery and equipment approved by the Environmental Protection Department or those that carry exemption labels can be used in specified activities and locations, under new air pollution control regulations.

The regulations, which came into effect on June 1, cover the use of machinery and equipment including crawler cranes, excavators and air compressors in designated areas such as construction sites, container terminals and back-up facilities, restricted airport areas, designated waste disposal facilities and specified processes.

Non-road mobile machinery owners are reminded to apply for the exemption before November 30.

Anyone who breaches the regulations is liable to a maximum fine of $200,000 and six months' imprisonment.

The department launched an online application system on June 1 for processing the applications and people can check if they have been approved through the system.
