Rural recovery:  A village clean-up week launch ceremony is held at Ma Yau Tong Village.

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department today launched a village clean-up week at Ma Yau Tong Village, Tseung Kwan O.

Officiating at the launch ceremony, Acting Secretary for Security John Lee called on residents to keep the village clean and hygienic, saying the Government's efforts alone are not sufficient in view of the vast size of the rural area.

He urged villagers to work together with government departments to ensure environmental hygiene and to build a better living environment for all.

Mr Lee, other guests and the department’s workers conducted cleaning and pest control work in the village's public areas. They also distributed leaflets and souvenirs to villagers.

During clean-up week, the Environmental Protection Department will conduct publicity and education activities to raise awareness on proper handling of construction waste.
