August was hotter and drier than usual, seeing the month's highest ever temperature since records began in 1884 of 36.3 degrees Celsius.
The Hong Kong Observatory said the monthly mean temperature was 29.3 degrees, 0.7 degrees above the normal figure.
Total rainfall was 143.3mm - about one-third of the normal figure of 432.2mm.
The accumulated rainfall since January 1 was 1,520.1mm, about 20% below the normal figure of 1,905.5mm.
