Sha Tin clean-up drive kicks off

August 23, 2015

The Sha Tin District Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong Our Home campaign has kicked off at the Sha Tin Park amphitheatre, in which a carnival and awards presentation ceremony was held.

The carnival offered performances, game stalls, talks on cleaning and hygiene, and a hand-cleaning competition.

Prizes for the 2015 Sha Tin District Clean Hong Kong colouring competition were awarded and the winning entries were displayed.

At the ceremony, Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah said the Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong Our Home campaign has reinforced the concerted efforts of different sectors in the community and enhanced public awareness of environmental hygiene since it was launched.

He added that comprehensive cleaning work would be introduced in Sha Tin, including the co-ordination of anti-mosquito initiatives among government departments. Young volunteers will also be engaged in cleaning services for "three nil" buildings in the district and to visit elderly people living in those buildings to promote the clean campaign.

After the ceremony, officiating guests and members of the Sha Tin District distributed cleaning packs to people outside Sha Tin Park to promote the campaign.
