Eighty companies and organisations that qualified as Hong Kong Green Organisations last year were honoured today in recognition of their contributions to environmental protection.
During the ceremony, Permanent Secretary for the Environment/Director of Environmental Protection Anissa Wong thanked the organisations for supporting the scheme and their efforts in going green.
The Hong Kong Green Organisation Certification aims to encourage companies and organisations to sustain environmental initiatives in waste reduction, energy saving, carbon reduction and indoor air quality improvement, as well as to strengthen their products' environmental attributes.
Participating organisations are required to complete a checklist on their environmental initiatives and define their goals. Certificates are granted to those that successfully achieve the goals or reduce their carbon footprint.
Since the launch of certificate schemes in 2008, more than 600 companies and organisations in 15 different industry sectors have been recognised as Hong Kong Green Organisations.
