The Hong Kong Observatory today launched two new radio and TV announcements to enhance public awareness on preventing disasters during inclement weather.
One announcement introduces three possible threats caused by thunderstorms - lightning, squalls and hail - and reminds people to stay tuned to the Observatory for thunderstorm warnings and to take precautions.
The other one illustrates the danger of swells caused by tropical cyclones which can develop into huge waves when approaching the coast. It advises people to keep away from the shore and stop all water activities if necessary.
