Secretary for the Environment KS Wong says the Government has no intention to develop country parks for housing.
Speaking to reporters today, Mr Wong said the Development Bureau has been looking for land on various fronts to meet housing needs, and there are mechanisms in place to maintain a balance between development and conservation.
Development plans must meet environmental control measures, including air and nature conservation, Mr Wong said, adding they need to be considered case-by-case.
He also said developing brownfield sites is an option considered acceptable by the public, but consideration must be given to how to preserve industries operating on these sites, such as recycling industries.
