The Legislative Council Finance Committee approved the Government's funding request to expand Tseung Kwan O landfill today.
The approval came after filibustering by some lawmakers for over one-and-a-half months.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Secretary for the Environment KS Wong said the filibustering has been delaying essential waste infrastructure projects which are necessities for Hong Kong.
The delay has increased the costs of the projects, he said, urging lawmakers to support the other funding requests in relation to the proposal to extend landfills and build an incinerator.
