More green transport trials approved

The 11th batch of applications for green transport trials under the Pilot Green Transport Fund has been approved, the Environmental Protection Department announced today.

 

The 14 newly approved trial applications include the retrofitting of a ferry with a diesel-electric propulsion system and a seawater scrubber, eight electric taxis, five electric vans and two hybrid trucks, involving a total subsidy of about $8.5 million.

 

This brings the total number of trials under the fund to 88, for the testing of 31 electric taxis, two electric light buses, 11 electric buses, 38 electric goods vehicles, 48 hybrid goods vehicles, 12 hybrid light buses, three sets of solar air-conditioning systems, the retrofitting of four bus engines, and retrofitting a ferry with a diesel-electric propulsion system and a seawater scrubber, amounting to a total subsidy of about $101 million.

 

The Government set up the $300 million fund in 2011. Transport operators can apply to the fund to test green transport technologies, subject to a maximum subsidy of $9 million per application and $12 million in total.
