KS Wong concludes US visit

September 27, 2014

Secretary for the Environment KS Wong concluded his duty visit to the United States in Seattle yesterday.

Mr Wong met with the Seattle Office of Sustainability & Environment’s Director Jill Simmons and Seattle City Councillor Mike O'Brien, to share ideas and strategies for achieving a sustainable urban environment.

He then delivered a keynote speech during a luncheon, outlining how the Government will foster a low-carbon and liveable city.

Mr Wong met the Bullitt Foundation’s President and Chief Executive Officer Denis Hayes, to exchange views on urban sustainability. He also toured the Bullitt Centre, a six-storey structure showcasing the greenest commercial and office building in the world.

He then spoke with Seattle City Light’s Chief of Staff Sephir Hamilton, and toured the Seattle Lighting Design Lab to learn about new technologies and energy-efficient lighting. Seattle City Light is a public utility providing electricity to Seattle and eight neighbouring jurisdictions.

Mr Wong stopped for a visit to the Seattle Public Library and City Hall, before concluding his trip with a dinner hosted by the Hong Kong Business Association of Washington.
