September 19, 2014

The Environmental Protection Department advises people to reduce physical exertion and outdoor activities due to higher than normal pollution levels.

At 2pm today the Air Quality Health Index at Kwai Chung, Tsuen Wan, Yuen Long, Tuen Mun and Tap Mun reached 10+ while most general stations were at 8 or above. The health risk categories were "Very High" or "Serious".

In addition, the index at Causeway Bay and Central roadside stations also reached 10+ at 2pm today, which is the "Serious" health risk category.

The Hong Kong Observatory said there will likely be a few showers today and over the weekend. Pollution is expected to remain higher.

The observatory advised children, the elderly and people with heart or respiratory illnesses to reduce physical exertion and outdoor activities.
