Secretary for the Environment KS Wong says the Government plans to ask the Legislative Council for funding to construct a waste incinerator on Shek Kwu Chau after its summer recess.
Speaking to reporters today, Mr Wong said the incinerator is essential to Hong Kong’s waste management plan, despite the other waste reduction measures the Government has implemented.
The tendering exercise, expected to take up to two years, will start as soon as funding is approved.
Mr Wong assured that the incinerator will adopt the world leading European Union flue gas standard to protect public health.
Speaking on the establishment of two marine parks southwest of Lantau Island, Mr Wong said a public consultation exercise on the move will start early next year, seeking to designate the parks by 2017.
