Secretary for the Environment KS Wong participated in the plenary session of the 11th Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation Energy Ministerial Meeting in Beijing today.
He joined ministers responsible for energy from the other 20 members of APEC to discuss collaboration on the sustainable development of energy.
Talks covered energy security, energy trade and investment, energy efficiency and sustainable communities, as well as the promotion and use of cleaner sources of energy.
In his speech, Mr Wong said Hong Kong has a wide range of policies and measures to manage the demand for energy consumption through legislation and incentives, Government leadership, public education and social mobilisation.
The next step is to further promote energy efficiency and a sustainable community, he added.
Mr Wong also held bilateral meetings with the Chief Executive of the Singapore Energy Market Authority Chee Hong Tat, and the US Deputy Secretary of Energy, Daniel Poneman.
He will call on officials of the National Energy Administration, the National Development & Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Industry & Information Technology tomorrow.
