Pollution triggers 14 beaches' closure

August 25, 2014

All 14 beaches in Tuen Mun and Tsuen Wan districts have been temporarily closed for the sake of public health due to possible sewage pollution due to a Pillar Point Sewage Treatment Works malfunction.

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department has posted notices at these beaches and advises people not to swim at them during the closure period.

The Environmental Protection Department will take water samples from the beaches for analysis, and the beaches will be re-opened when the test results fall within acceptable levels.

The 14 affected beaches are Butterfly, Castle Peak, Kadoorie, Cafeteria Old, Cafeteria New, and Golden in Tuen Mun District, and Anglers’, Gemini, Hoi Mei Wan, Casam, Lido, Ting Kau, Approach and Ma Wan Tung Wan in Tsuen Wan District.
