Secretary for the Environment KS Wong opened the Zero Carbon Building Eco Home today, urging the public to use energy-efficient appliances to reduce electricity consumption.
He said reducing residential power consumption is important as it accounts for a quarter of total consumption.
The Electrical & Mechanical Services Department has established mandatory energy-efficiency labels for major goods like air-conditioners, refrigerators, dehumidifiers and washing machines.
The department will include more high-powered appliances in the scheme to help consumers make environmentally-friendly choices, he added.
