Second term:  Hong Kong Observatory Director Shun Chi-ming is re-elected President of the Commission for Aeronautical Meteorology.

WMO presidency extended

July 16, 2014

Hong Kong Observatory Director Shun Chi-ming has been re-elected President of the World Meteorological Organisation’s Commission for Aeronautical Meteorology.

He was elected at the commission’s 15th session in Montreal yesterday to serve a second four-year term.

Mr Shun said there will be many challenges ahead for the commission, emphasising the importance of striking a balance between seeking further advancement in weather services for aviation and the developing world's needs.

Deputy Administrator of the China Meteorological Administration and principal delegate of China attending the session Shen Xiaonong said he highly regards Mr Shun's leadership.

The Commission for Aeronautical Meteorology is one of the WMO's eight technical commissions looking after the application of meteorology to aviation and co-ordinating support for safe, economical and efficient air navigation.
