Secretary for the Environment KS Wong opened a new attraction at the Hong Kong Global Geopark of China today.
The Volcano Discovery Centre outlines the geological background and uniqueness of Hong Kong's hexagonal columns, a major feature of the geopark, which were created by a series of violent volcanic eruptions 140 million years ago.
It features a model of hexagonal rock formations and displays various rock specimens from Hong Kong and around the world.
Located in Sai Kung Waterfront Park, the centre will serve as a gateway to the geopark and will help to promote ecotourism.
