The Environment Bureau and Electrical & Mechanical Services Department have joined forces with businesses and the public to launch an indoor temperature energy saving charter, promoting smarter air-conditioning use.
Speaking at the launch today, Secretary for the Environment KS Wong said the charter has enlisted 34 developers and property management companies to help combat climate change. They have pledged to keep their 130 shopping malls between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius from June to September to help save energy.
More than 450 shops, 220 office premises, 820 offices, 142 housing estates and 80 residential buildings have also signed on. They will display the charter and publicity materials at their premises to promote energy saving.
CLP and Hongkong Electric have also introduced two funds to subsidise energy-efficiency improvement works building owners carry out. Applications open in late June for funds worth $100 million.
