HK to share geoconservation experience

Director of Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Alan Wong is attending the 5th International UNESCO Conference on Geoparks in the Unzen Volcanic Area Global Geopark in Japan, to share Hong Kong's experience in geoconservation, from today until May 15.
 
Participants from more than 30 countries will share their experiences in geoconservation, discuss the role of geoparks and geotourism and wise use of geoheritage values.
 
Hong Kong's new initiatives such as a geopark hotel and floating kiosks were shared at a public panel session on geotourism today.
 
Its experience in setting up a programme called the  'Global E-classroom' will be shared tomorrow. The programme enables presenters to give real-time presentations on their geoparks online.
 
Hong Kong will present a paper on geopark sistering partnerships with Itoigawa Global Geopark of Japan on May 15, to show how international co-operation helps promote geoparks' development.
 
Hong Kong has entered into sister arrangements with five global geoparks to collaborate in training, research, education and mutual promotion.
 
The conference is held every two years to discuss geopark developments. The main theme of this year's conference is earth heritage and sustainable development.
