May 11, 2012
The Environmental Protection Department has rated water quality at 21 beaches 'good' and 16 'fair' for this weekend. The good beaches include Repulse Bay, Deep Water Bay, South Bay, Silverstrand, Tong Fuk, Turtle Cove and St Stephen's Beaches.
Compared with last week, Silverstrand has upgraded from fair to good, while Big Wave Bay and Lower Cheung Sha Beaches have downgraded from good to fair.
The department warned many beaches are more polluted than their grades suggest during and after periods of heavy rain. Bathers should avoid swimming at beaches for up to three days after a storm or heavy rainfall.
