Environment chief visits Beijing

Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau will speak at the launch of the construction of the Hong Kong branch line of the second west-east natural gas pipeline in Beijing, at the National Energy Administration's invitation.The National Development & Reform Commission, National Energy Administration and China National Petroleum Corporation organised the ceremony, to be held at the China National Convention Centre this afternoon.
National Energy Administration Administrator Liu Tienan and senior Guangdong and Shenzhen officials will also attend the ceremony.
The Central Government earlier announced construction work on the second pipeline of the west-east gas transmission project will be accelerated, aiming to supply natural gas to Hong Kong in the second half of 2012.
Mr Yau will return to Hong Kong on March 3.
