Hong Kong has an effective emergency response mechanism to deal with typhoons.
Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung made the statement to the media before departing for Guangzhou today.
He said he inspected the Security Bureau's Emergency Monitoring & Support Centre twice after Typhoon Hato hit the city earlier this week, adding the Government monitored the situation and released information during the storm.
Although Hong Kong has an effective emergency response system to deal with typhoons, he said the Government must improve its flood control efforts.
The Government will review its disaster management measures to better prepare for future emergencies, he added.
Mr Cheung also said the Government is concerned about the damage wrought by the typhoon on Macau and is willing to offer assistance to the city.
