Chief Executive Carrie Lam met United Nations General Assembly President Peter Thomson at the Chief Executive’s Office today to discuss marine habitat protection.
A strong advocate and supporter of the UN Ocean Conference, Mr Thomson has been promoting the conference's outcomes to international stakeholders.
Mrs Lam told him Hong Kong is committed to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
She said the city has taken action to protect its marine environment, conserve important ecological habitats and species, and promote the sustainable use of fisheries in local waters.
Mrs Lam said Hong Kong has designated five marine parks and one marine reserve to protect areas of high ecological value.
The UNESCO Global Geopark also contributes to natural and cultural heritage conservation.
Mrs Lam said Hong Kong will continue its multi-pronged efforts in enhancing marine habitat protection.
