Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung has offered his deep sympathy to the families of those hurt or killed in yesterday's earthquake in Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
In a statement today Mr Cheung said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will closely monitor the situation of Hong Kong people in the quake-affected areas and provide assistance to them wherever necessary.
The Immigration Department is establishing contact with Hong Kong people there, giving assistance via the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Chengdu.
