Civil service pay approval urged

(July 20, 2017)

Secretary for the Civil Service Joshua Law has urged legislators to approve the civil service pay adjustment proposal as soon as possible after the Legislative Council's summer recess.

Speaking to the media today, Mr Law said he is disappointed the pay plan was not vetted and approved in yesterday’s LegCo Finance Committee meeting.

Civil servants, especially rank-and-file staff, are also disappointed, he added.

The Government will table the proposal again after the recess and he hopes it will be passed as soon as possible.

"The issue about civil service pay adjustment is non-controversial and is not a political issue.

"I hope all parties will have the interests of the public in mind and expedite the processing and the approval of the proposal as soon as possible after the resumption of business after summer."
