The Registration & Electoral Office has accepted comments from the Ombudsman on the theft of two notebook computers containing elector information.
They were stolen from AsiaWorld-Expo, the fallback site of the Chief Executive Election in March.
Commenting on the thefts today, the Ombudsman urged the office to implement recommendations in reports by the Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Bureau, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, and the Electoral Affairs Commission.
The office said it accepts the Ombudsman's comments, adding it is thoroughly following up on various improvement measures stated in the reports.
It reiterated it has learnt from the incident and sincerely apologises for any inconvenience and distress caused to the public.
