Chief Executive Carrie Lam inspected the Shek Kong Stabling Sidings of the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link today.

Accompanied by Secretary for Transport & Housing Frank Chan, Mrs Lam viewed the link’s train which has just been delivered to Hong Kong.

It is the third of the nine XRL trains ordered by the Government to be delivered. It arrived on July 6 by rail from its manufacturing plant in Qingdao.

Mrs Lam said the XRL Hong Kong section is a strategic infrastructure project which will significantly enhance the connection between Hong Kong and Mainland cities.

It will boost career development and living for Hong Kong people and create new opportunities for the next generation, she added.

For the link to bring the anticipated benefits and for travellers to enjoy its convenience, she said co-location is the most appropriate arrangement.

“The Hong Hong Special Administrative Region Government’s discussion with the Central Government on the co-location arrangement is at the final stages.

“We will soon announce a comprehensive proposal which complies with the Basic Law and has sound legal backing.”
