CS meets House Committee heads

October 17, 2016
Agenda arrangement

Agenda arrangement:  Chief Secretary Carrie Lam (centre) meets the Legislative Council House Committee Chairman Starry Lee (right) and Deputy Chairman Dennis Kwok at the Central Government Offices, Tamar.

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam met the Sixth Legislative Council House Committee Chairman Starry Lee and Deputy Chairman Dennis Kwok today.

It is an established practice for the Chairman and Deputy Chairman to regularly meet with the Chief Secretary after the House Committee meeting to discuss the arrangements for agenda items proposed by the Government and issues of concern raised by legislators.

Mrs Lam told them that, for the three Government bills the processing of which could not be completed before the prorogation of the Legislative Council due to filibustering by some lawmakers, the Government will re-table them at LegCo as soon as possible.

The bills are the Private Columbaria Bill, the Fire Services (Amendment) Bill and the Medical Registration (Amendment) Bill.

They, together with 16 other bills, have been included in the Government's Legislative Programme for the 2016-17 legislative session.

There were also nine agenda items included in the previous term’s agendas but their scrutiny was yet to be completed by the Finance Committee and the Public Works Subcommittee and Establishment Subcommittee.

Mrs Lam said the Government will consider legislators' views on whether some of these items can be submitted directly to the Finance Committee or respective subcommittees for deliberation without going through panel consultation afresh, so the Government can proceed with its work as soon as possible.
