Chief Secretary Carrie Lam met senior officials and representatives from the business and infrastructure sectors in London yesterday to boost links between Hong Kong and the British capital.

She attended Asia House’s roundtable breakfast which focused on Hong Kong’s unique role under “one country, two systems” and the Belt & Road initiative.

She took the opportunity to thank Asia House Chairman Sir John Boyd for inviting her to contribute an article to the publication Asia 2025 to highlight Hong Kong's role as a hyper-connected city.

Mrs Lam was briefed on the UK’s sports development strategy by Director of Culture, Tourism & Sport of the Department for Culture, Media & Sport Clare Pillman and Senior Manager of Stakeholder Relations & Public Affairs of UK Sport Duncan Jenner.

She also met with Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport Karen Bradley.

Mrs Lam later called on Chinese Ambassador to the UK Liu Xiaoming to thank him for the consular assistance given to Hong Kong people.

She then joined Sir Henry Keswick and Lord Wilson of Tillyorn at a luncheon organised by the Hong Kong Association, and later met Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond.

She attended a reception organised by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office and the Institution of Civil Engineers, meeting the institute's Vice President Prof Lord Robert Mair and signing a roll as an Honorary Fellow, a title she earned in 2013 in recognition of her contribution to the development of the land, property and construction industries in her previous capacity as Secretary for Development.

She also attended the Hong Kong Trade Development Council's Hong Kong Dinner in London event and addressed over 450 British business representatives on the importance of the Hong Kong-UK partnership.

She said Hong Kong and London have much to collaborate on, particularly in capitalising on the internationalisation of the renminbi. She also highlighted the progress Hong Kong has made in innovation and technology, and the creative industries to diversify the economy.
