CE praises Hong Kong team

August 23, 2016

Chief Executive CY Leung praised the Hong Kong Olympic team for their outstanding performance and sportsmanship in the games.

Speaking to reporters ahead of an Executive Council meeting today, Mr Leung said he will attend an activity on Friday to welcome them back.

He called for the society’s support and encouragement to the athletes, so they can continue to achieve good results.

Mr Leung noted that the Government has injected a lot of resources into sports development in the past few years, such as the Kai Tak sports complex, which is the biggest investment ever in sports facilities in Hong Kong.

He said Hong Kong needs to learn from other places in terms of sports development as well. The Government will launch a comprehensive review on sports policy with a view to promote sports in schools and identify potential athletes.

On the coming visit by gold medallists from China’s Olympic team, Mr Leung said swimmer Fu Yuanhui will join the visit to Hong Kong.
