Aid offered for attack victims

July 22, 2016

The Government has spared no effort in following up on the German train attack where four Hong Kong people were injured.

The Social Welfare Department called family members of the injured on the evening of July 21. Two sums of $50,000 from an emergency fund under a Sun Hung Kai Properties initiative were made available to them.

The Labour & Welfare Bureau and the department secured the support of various charitable organisations and trust funds to offer emergency financial support to the families.

The Home Affairs Department said six charities have pledged donations of up to $300,000 to the families.

The Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office, Berlin, is working with the German Federal Foreign Office to identify all possible means of financial assistance.

The Social Welfare Department has arranged for a clinical psychologist to provide counselling to one of the victims via telephone. The department will also render assistance to other family members in Hong Kong.

On the investigation of the case, the Immigration Department has been liaising with local authorities and requested they provide the latest updates to the families.

Liaison is continuing with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' office in Hong Kong, the Chinese embassy in Germany, German Consulate-General in Hong Kong and other agencies to follow up on the incident.
