It is totally justified for the Electoral Affairs Commission to make arrangements to require 2016 Legislative Council Election candidates to declare they will uphold the Basic Law and pledge allegiance to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
This was the message from Chief Secretary Carrie Lam who told the media today “Hong Kong independence” is a contravention of the Basic Law and the “one country, two systems” principle, which should not be ignored.
She said the same applies to LegCo candidates who have "Hong Kong independence" on their agenda.
This is a matter of principle that must be upheld, she added.
