Seventy-nine people have been appointed Justices of the Peace this year, including 53 non-official and 26 official ones.
Their main function is to visit prisons, detention centres and other institutions to ensure their effective management and to ensure no-one is unfairly treated or deprived of their rights.
They can also be required by the Chief Executive to perform other duties.
The list of appointees was gazetted today.
