Secretary for the Civil Service Clement Cheung visited the Home Affairs Department today to inspect its work.

He met Director of Home Affairs Janice Tse and the department's directorate staff.

The department is responsible for enhancing communication between the Government and the public, and facilitating the development of district administration.

Launched in 2006, the programme provides seed grants of up to $3 million for eligible organisations to set up social enterprises to create job opportunities, products and services for the socially disadvantaged. More than 180 social enterprises have been funded so far.

Mr Cheung then visited the General Registry, the Liaison Officers' Office and the District Council Secretariat of the Wan Chai District Office, as well as the Wan Chai Home Affairs Enquiry Centre.

He also met staff representatives at a tea gathering to discuss departmental issues. He praised them for their efforts and encouraged them to continue building close ties with all sectors of the community.
