Museum tour:  Chief Secretary Carrie Lam and West Kowloon Cultural District Authority Chief Executive Officer Duncan Pescod (centre) visit the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam began her nine-day visit to the US in San Francisco on June 2 by attending a dinner with members of the Committee of 100, which comprises distinguished Chinese American leaders from various fields.

Mrs Lam updated them on Hong Kong's latest developments and discussed the city's role in China's development and the opportunities for Hong Kong under the Belt & Road Initiative.

Accompanied by West Kowloon Cultural District Authority Chief Executive Officer Duncan Pescod, she visited the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art yesterday.

She met its Director Neal Benezra to learn about its operation and management and to explore opportunities for collaboration with M+ in the West Kowloon Cultural District.

The museum has just reopened after undergoing a major expansion. It is now one of the largest contemporary art museums in the US.

Mrs Lam then met San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee to discuss city and housing development.

She later spoke at the "Hong Kong - Asia's Premier Business Hub" business luncheon co-organised by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in San Francisco, the Hong Kong Association of Northern California and the Asia Society Northern California Centre.

She noted that Hong Kong rolls out a level playing field for all companies, with its simple and low tax regime, independent judiciary, rule of law, and intellectual property protection regime.

Mrs Lam also visited a technology company specialising in business-oriented professional networking.

She said the Special Administrative Region Government is committed to promoting innovation and technology development in Hong Kong and strives to create an ecosystem with excellent software and hardware support for the key players to collaborate and promote the development of the sector.

She later met Chinese-Consul General Ambassador Luo Linquan and thanked him for helping Hong Kong people needing consular assistance.
