CE urges economic confidence

May 31, 2016

With Hong Kong again ranked the world's most competitive economy by the International Institute for Management Development, the public should be confident in the economy.

Chief Executive CY Leung made the statement before today's Executive Council meeting, citing Hong Kong's consistent commitment to providing a favourable business environment, its encouragement of innovation through low and simple taxation, and its role as a gateway between the Mainland and the global capital markets as the major reasons for being ranked top.

He noted these factors, especially playing the super-connector role, have been part of the Government’s strategies to develop the economy in recent years.

He said as long as society can seize opportunities and reduce internal depletion, Hong Kong can withstand the global economic downturn.

Shenzhen is also competitive, he said, with its innovation and technology growing rapidly in recent years, and Hong Kong can study its neighbour's strategies and explore further co-operation with it.
