CE refutes baggage reports

April 26, 2016

Chief Executive CY Leung says his wife Regina had no intention of entering a restricted zone at the airport to give their daughter her hand baggage, as claimed in newspaper reports.

Mr Leung told reporters before an Executive Council meeting today, that his wife did not have a boarding pass so she only went as far as the pre-immigration clearance point at the North gate because the South gate was closed.

He explained that his wife thought airport staff were accompanying their daughter to the restricted area's entrance where she could hand over the bag.

Mr Leung also cited the Airport Authority's report on the incident which concluded that he had not exerted any pressure on airline staff or asked them to call him Chief Executive, as claimed in media reports.

He reiterated the authority's conclusion that no safety protocols were breached as his daughter's baggage had passed through four security checks, including the final check at the boarding gate.

Mr Leung added that a demonstration staged at the airport against the incident despite an immediate Civil Aviation Department response was unnecessary and had affected Hong Kong Airport's reputation.
