Chief Executive CY Leung says he is confident that co-location arrangements for the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link Hong Kong section can be implemented.
Speaking to reporters at the airport before departing for India today Mr Leung said similar arrangements are in place between countries in Europe, and between Canada and the US, so he believes it can be implemented between Hong Kong and the Mainland under the “one country, two systems” principle and the Basic Law.
He said the Government attaches high importance to building the link as it will enhance the city’s economic development, and he called on the Legislative Council to properly examine the Government’s proposal.
Mr Leung is leading a business delegation to India from February 2 to 4 to meet with political and business leaders and to foster closer economic and trade relations.
