Chief Executive CY Leung left for the Philippines this evening to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation 2015 Leaders' Week to be held in Manila.
Speaking to reporters at the airport, Mr Leung said he will take the chance to meet leaders of participating countries to strengthen bilateral relations with them.
He will also follow up on negotiations on a free trade agreement with ASEAN member countries.
When asked about progress in appointing a Hong Kong University council chairman, he said an announcement would be made at an appropriate time.
He also said he would not be able to watch the FIFA World Cup qualifier match - Hong Kong vs China, to be held on Tuesday - as he will be abroad.
