Chief Secretary Carrie Lam visited the Immigration Department’s headquarters today to better understand the department’s work and exchange views with its staff.

Director of Immigration Chan Kwok-ki and directorate officers briefed her on the department’s operation, organisation and latest developments.

She toured the Enterprise System Management Centre, which monitors the department’s computer systems to facilitate flexible deployment of front-line staff to deliver more efficient public services.

She also saw the Travel Document Personalisation Centre where she was briefed on HKSAR passports' advanced technology and high-security features. In 2014, the department issued more than 700,000 HKSAR passports, she learned.

Mrs Lam also visited the Enforcement Exhibition Gallery with displays of news reports and photographs of enforcement action, seized exhibits, forgery items and tools for forgery, and enforcement equipment.

She praised the Enforcement Division's work and learned the department has enhanced its capabilities to detect immigration offences by stepping up intelligence exchange and co-operation with local and neighbouring law enforcement agencies.

On a tour of the International Cooperation Section, she learned of the work of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit and met with the unit staff.

She commended the unit for working closely with the Office of the Commissioner of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Chinese diplomatic and consular missions overseas, HKSAR offices outside Hong Kong and consular posts in Hong Kong and other government departments in assisting Hong Kong residents in distress outside of the city.

Mrs Lam reaffirmed the immigration staff's commitment and professionalism and encouraged them to continue to deliver efficient and quality services to local residents and tourists.
