Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen today has started his visit to Washington, DC by addressing the Georgetown University Law Centre.

The Hong Kong Government has a long-term policy to enhance the city’s position as a leading centre for dispute resolution in the Asia-Pacific region, he said.

Noting the economic development in the region and Belt & Road initiative's impact, he said there will be an increasing need for international legal and dispute-resolution services.

"We also focus on the provision of an arbitration-friendly legislative and enforcement regime, and back it up with the support of both local and international arbitration institutions.

"Our efforts have received international recognition. For instance, in the 2015 International Arbitration Survey released by Queen Mary University of London, the HKSAR is ranked the third most preferred seat worldwide, behind London and Paris," he added.

Mr Yuen delivered a keynote speech at a Hague Conventions conference to share Hong Kong's experience in private international law with reference to the Hague Service Convention and the Hague Evidence Convention.

He also called on the Minister of the Chinese Embassy in the US, Li Kexin.
