Secretary for the Civil Service Clement Cheung visited the Social Welfare Department today to meet its staff and learn about their work.

Accompanied by Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service Thomas Chow, Mr Cheung first met with the Director of Social Welfare Carol Yip and the directorate staff.

Mr Cheung then met with the representatives of the Departmental Consultative Committee and staff unions to learn about the challenges faced by frontline staff.

Later, Mr Cheung visited the Chai Wan Social Security Field Unit and was briefed on how the unit administers the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Scheme and the Social Security Allowance Scheme, and the provision of emergency relief services.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Cheung visited the Chai Wan (West) Integrated Family Service Centre, which is co-located with the Field Unit and a Maternal & Child Health Centre to provide a one-stop service for shared customers.

Mr Cheung was briefed on a series of family services that the centre provides under the principle of "child-centred, family-focused and community-based".

He also talked to staff members and encouraged them to continue providing high-quality, efficient and professional services to the public.
