John Tsang to head war memorial

September 01, 2015

An official ceremony to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression will be held at the City Hall Memorial Garden at 8am on September 3.

Acting Chief Executive John Tsang and senior government officials will attend.

The ceremony will include a performance by the Police Band, the singing of the national anthem by the St Paul's Co-educational College choir, a flag raising, a gun salute by the Police Rifle Squad, silence in mourning, and wreath laying.

About 700 people will attend, including judicial officers, representatives of the Executive and Legislative Council, representatives of war veteran groups, uniformed groups and students.

In view of the limited capacity at the venue, there will be no public viewing area. Radio Television Hong Kong will broadcast the ceremony live.

Temporary traffic arrangements at the northern section of Edinburgh Place outside City Hall will be implemented on the day, from 5.30am until the end of the ceremony.
