Gov't refutes HKU intervention claims

Accusations that the Government intervened in the appointment of Hong Kong University's Vice-president are totally unfounded, it said in a statement today.

Legislator James Tien yesterday accused the Government of intervening in the appointment and of meddling in the university's operations.

The Government added that it deeply regretted Mr Tien's remarks.
