Chief Executive CY Leung has urged investors to be cautious during a time of stock market volatility, adding the Government will closely monitor the situation.
Speaking to reporters ahead of an Executive Council meeting today, Mr Leung noted that the strength and regulatory systems of major Asian economies, including developing countries, has greatly improved since 1997, and the current situation should not be compared to the Asian financial crisis that occurred 18 years ago.
He added that the market may continue to fluctuate for some time, but he is confident in the regulatory stability and effectiveness of Hong Kong's investment markets.
