CS visits Brunei

Royal reception:  Chief Secretary Carrie Lam meets Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in Brunei.

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam visited Brunei yesterday and today to boost Hong Kong's economic and trade ties with the country.

 

She called on Chinese ambassador Yang Jian yesterday and then attended a dinner hosted by Second Minister of Foreign Affairs & Trade Lim Jock Seng.

 

This morning, Mrs Lam attended a breakfast meeting with local business leaders, encouraging them to use Hong Kong to raise funds, issue bonds and manage their assets. She also invited Brunei enterprises to enter the Mainland market through Hong Kong.

 

She later met Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Chairman of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam, Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, and then attended a lunch hosted by Minister of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Prince Mohamed Bolkiah.

 

She then met head of state Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

 

Mrs Lam thanked Brunei for its efforts in the negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Hong Kong, noting both sides are pleased the fourth round negotiations were successfully concluded.

 

Mrs Lam will return to Hong Kong tonight.
