Chief Secretary Carrie Lam today visited the Singapore Sports Hub, paid a courtesy call on the Chinese Ambassador to Singapore and attended a lunch hosted by Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister.
The world-class sporting hub has football, athletics, rugby and cricket facilities, and community lifestyle and entertainment facilities.
During the visit, Mrs Lam said the Hong Kong SAR Government is committed to promoting sports development and has been devoting resources to cultivate elite athletes and encourage wider community participation in sports activities.
“The pre-construction works of the Kai Tak Multi-purpose Sports Complex will soon commence. Upon completion in 2021, it will be the largest-ever sports facility in Hong Kong, providing high-quality international sports venues as well as sports facilities and open space for the community,” she said.
After the visit, Mrs Lam paid a courtesy call on the Chinese Ambassador to Singapore Chen Xiaodong.
Mrs Lam then attended a lunch hosted by Singapore Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security & Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean.
Mrs Lam and Mr Teo exchanged views on forging stronger economic ties between the two places and also with the Association of South East Asian Nations as a whole.
The fourth round of the ASEAN–Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement negotiations has been successfully concluded just a few days ago and good progress has been made, she noted.
She also participated in the Spotlight Hong Kong in Singapore Festival.
She will depart for Brunei tomorrow.
